Durand Boundzimbou

Durand Boundzimbou is a director and choreographer as well as a tremendously talented dancer. A protege of Chrysogone Diangouaya, Durand incorporates traditional Congolese dance into beautiful modern dance choreography. His productions in France have attracted critical acclaim and brought elements of Congolese culture to wider audiences. He is a charismatic and physical dancer, yet his boundless energy, impressive leaps and quick footwork are tempered with a grace and line that many a ballet dancer would envy.

Living and working in Brazzaville, Durand joined the Ballet-Theatre Monana at the age of 15, and performed with the group until 1993. The following year he founded Ballet-Tieri, a center for culutral expression that offers professional training to young choreographers and dancers. In 2001, his work "L'HOE" won the Performing Arts RFI Discovery Award.
